A phenotype is the external appearance of a tree resulting from the interaction of its inherited genes (i.e., its genotype) and the environment. We know a lot about the genotype, but much less about the phenotype of trees in wild tree populations.

Why is it important to know about tree phenotypes? Because only trees with phenotypes that match their future environments will be able to survive climate change.

You can help fill the gap by collecting phenotypic data on individual trees and their environments, from single trees or whole forests as your resources allow.
